CPCRetroDev 2016, the 4th edition of the retro game creation contest of the University of Alicante. This contest awards the best and most creative developers of the retro scene, able to develop the best games for Amstrad CPC 464. The main characteristics of this year’s contest are:

One year before his death (1994), the creator of CP/M, Gary Kildall, had written his memoirs : Computer Connections: People, Places, and Events in the Evolution of the Personal Computer Industry, but only available for his family and friends. It's now available for all and for free (see link just above, at the end of the article).

CPC Game Reviews's update and a new Amstrad CPC reflexion game : Kamyzol

There is an update on CPC Game Reviews talking about the last Crackers Velus program, a reflexion game (taquin like) called Kamyzol.

The goal of the game is to move the red piece toward the exit by moving all others pieces with a twist, they can be moved only horizontally or vertically.

Two online Amstrad CPC emulators are updated : JavaCPC and Sugarbox

Two online Amstrad CPC emulators have been updated with bugs corrections and new features :

• Sugarbox : loading of snapshots (.SNA)
• JavaCPC : you can load your own disks images files (.DSK), some important keys are F1 - Show some info, F12 - Reset CPC, F2 - Load medium (CDT, DSK, even SNA is possible), F10 - Boot DSK in DF0, F9 - Toggle turbo mode and ALT + Enter - Toggle fullscreen)

Responsive design on Genesis8 Amstrad Page, surf with phones and tablets easily

Small graphical redesign of the site using HTML5 and "responsive design" to allow better surfing on smartphones and tablets.

New games on the unofficial 3D Construction Kit website

3D Construction Kit was written by Incentive Software and published by Domark in 1991 on Amstrad CPC. This utility let you create 3D graphical adventure games.

New games are available for all platforms on which 3D Construction Kit was ported, including the Amstrad CPC, on the unofficial 3D Construction Kit web site.

Since several years this site was on genesis8.free.fr with the domain www.genesis8bit.com being a redirection on the free address.

Now you can forget both addresses, and change your bookmark/favorite to www.genesis8bit.fr. The new site is faster, using PHP 5 instead of PHP 4 on free. I can use sub-domains, so if you want faster web site loading, you can use the mobile version of www.genesis8bit.fr (no youtube video).

Due to a bug in its CMS Xoops, Phenix Informatique (Amstrad.eu) is closing for an unkwown duration.

Sad news, lets hope that it will rise again from its ashes like it already did several times in the past.

NoRecess web site

NoRecess {the website} is a nice recent web site by NoRecess (since January 2011). He is the author of the Phat, Phat 2,Pheelone and Phreaksdemos. But he also wrote PhrozenC, a K&R C compiler for Amstrad CPC and the HxC Software Emulator Manager for Amstrad CPC. He is writing Phactory, a PC utility which is a completedevelopment editor targeting the Amstrad CPC platform. It features : code editor, bitmap converter, big file maker, dsk file manager, packer, hex editor... SDCC C compiler is alsofully integrated, and inlined assembly code is compatible with Maxam syntax.

There is an interesting article about state of the Amstrad CPC community in 2011 (with informations from Germany, United Kingdom, Greece, Denmark, Spain, South Australia and France), and last article is an interview of Axelay,author of Star Sabre, Dead On Time and Sub Hunter, and many more interesting things to read.
